pleione

Pleione culture

Light:  Pleiones prefer bright filtered light with no direct sun.  1000-1500 footcandles.
Temperature: Most Pleiones prefer cool to intermediate temperatures.  Maximum day temperatures should be between 75-80 degrees, and night minimums between 50-60 degrees.  During the winter months, the plants benefit from a night minimum between 40-50 degrees.
Water:  Pleiones have a distinct growing season when they should be kept moist and fertilized every two weeks—March through October, and a distinct dormant season when they should receive no water nor fertilizer—November through February.  Use a 20-20-20 fertilizer during the growing season.
Repotting:  Pleiones should be repotted every one to two years.  Repotting should be done just before the new growth begins in late January.  The bulbs can be separated and planted either separately or together in shallow pots.  They prefer a fine mix that drains freely—either a coarse sandy soil mix, New Zealand moss, or fine fir bark.
