odontoglossum

Odontoglossum/Miltonia culture

Light:
Bright filtered light with no direct sun.  Leaves should be light green in color with a slight pinkish tinge indicating maximum levels of light.
1000-1500 footcandles.
Temperature: Odontoglossums prefer cool temperatures with good air circulation. Daytime temperatures should be between 70-75 with a maximum of 80 degrees.  Night time temperatures should be between 50-55 with a minimum of 45 degrees. They can be grown outside in coastal California for most of the year, but should be brought inside when the temperature drops below 50 degrees (November through March).
Miltonias should be kept slightly warmer with daytime temperatures between 70-80 and night minimums of 55 degrees.
Water:  Odontoglossums and Miltonias should be kept moist at all times and not allowed to dry out.  The pseudobulbs will wrinkle slightly when the plant is dry.  On warm days, the plants benefit from a light misting of the foliage.  Use a 20-20-20 fertilizer every two weeks.
Repotting:  Odontoglossums and Miltonias should be repotted every one to two years, or when the potting medium has broken down.  They prefer fine fir bark mixed with sponge rock and charcoal, which provides for good drainage.  Odontoglossums and Miltonias do best when potted in small containers—do not overpot.  The best time for repotting is when the new growth is developing and is 1”-3” tall.
